Service Intervals


Servicing Your Machine

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Operating in extreme conditions may require more frequent service intervals:

ˇ Engine components may become dirty or plugged when operating in extreme heat, dust or other severe conditions.

ˇ Engine oil may lose efficiency if machine is operated constantly at slow or low engine speeds or with frequent short trips.


Please use the following timetables to perform routine maintenance on your machine.

As Needed

ˇ Replace alternator belt.

ˇ Replace air filter elements (see air restriction indicator)

ˇ Replace light bulbs.

ˇ Lubricate seat slide rails.

ˇ Replace fuses.

ˇ Clean or replace battery.

ˇ Check radiator hoses and clamps.

ˇ Check tire air pressure.

ˇ Clean fuel tank overfill reservoir.

ˇ Drain water and sediment from fuel tank.

ˇ Check and adjust front wheel toe-in.

Break-in - After 1 Hour

NOTE: When machine is new or anytime wheel hardware is loosened, tighten all bolts after one hour of operation and every four hours thereafter until proper torque values are maintained.

ˇ Check wheel bolt torque.

Break-in - After First 50 Hours

ˇ Change engine oil and filter.

ˇ Change transmission oil and filter.

ˇ Clean transmission suction screen.

ˇ Change suction side filter.

ˇ Check alternator belt tension.

ˇ Check radiator hoses and clamps.

ˇ Check air filter intake hoses and clamps.

ˇ Check wheel bolt torque.

ˇ Check tire air pressure.

ˇ Check for loose, missing, or damaged parts.

ˇ Lubricate lower brake pivot tubes.

ˇ MFWD Models: Check front axle oil level.

ˇ Check and clean rockshaft control valve filter.

ˇ Check air restriction indicator. Replace only primary filter unless secondary filter is visibly damaged or indicator shows an air restriction after the primary filter has been changed.

Every 10 Hours or Daily

ˇ Test safety systems.

ˇ Check engine oil level.

ˇ Check transmission oil level.

ˇ Check air filter rubber dust unloading valve.

ˇ Check air restriction indicator. Replace only primary filter unless secondary filter is visibly damaged or indicator shows an air restriction after the primary filter has been changed.

ˇ Check radiator coolant level.

ˇ Check fuel filter sediment bowl.

ˇ Check and clean grille and side screens.

ˇ Check and clean radiator cooling screen.

ˇ Check wheel bolt torque.

Every 50 Hours

ˇ MFWD Models: Check front axle oil level.

ˇ Check wheel bolt torque.

ˇ Check tire air pressure.

ˇ Check battery electrolyte.

ˇ Lubricate machine grease fittings.

ˇ Check clutch pedal free play on SyncShift model. Play should be between 10mm (0.4 in.) and 20mm (0.8 in.) at top of pedal travel.

Every 200 Hours

ˇ Change engine oil and filter.

ˇ Check battery electrolyte.

ˇ All Models: Change transmission oil filter.

ˇ All Models: Change suction side filter.

ˇ Check transmission oil level.

ˇ Clean fuel filter sediment bowl.

ˇ Inspect alternator belt and check tension.

ˇ Check and clean radiator cooling fins.

ˇ Lubricate 3-point hitch.

ˇ MFWD Models: Check front axle oil level.

ˇ Lubricate machine grease fittings.

ˇ Check tire air pressure.

ˇ Lubricate lower brake pivot tubes.

ˇ Check wheel bolt torque.

ˇ Check and clean rockshaft control valve filter.

ˇ Check air restriction indicator. Replace only primary filter unless secondary filter is visibly damaged or indicator shows an air restriction after the primary filter has been changed.

Every 400 Hours

ˇ All Models: Change transmission oil and filter.

ˇ All Models: Clean transmission suction screen.

ˇ All Models: Change suction side filter.

Every 500 Hours

ˇ Check battery electrolyte.

ˇ Check wheel bolt torque.

ˇ Lubricate machine grease fittings.

ˇ Check air restriction indicator. Replace only primary filter unless secondary filter is visibly damaged or indicator shows an air restriction after the primary filter has been changed.

ˇ Check engine speeds.

ˇ Check transmission oil level.

ˇ Check air filter intake hoses and clamps.

ˇ Replace fuel filter.

ˇ MFWD Models: Change front axle oil.

ˇ Inspect fuel injectors. (See your John Deere dealer.)

ˇ Adjust engine valve clearance. (See your John Deere dealer.)

Every 500 Hours or Yearly

ˇ Check radiator coolant freeze point and clarity.

Every Two Years or 2000 Hours

ˇ Flush and replace factory coolant. Flush cooling system and replace coolant with John Deere COOL-GARDŽ engine coolant.

Every Five Years or 5000 Hours

ˇ Flush cooling system and replace coolant with John Deere COOL-GARDŽ engine coolant.
