After Assembly

Lubricate all pivot points and grease fittings.

Clean backhoe of all oil and debris.

Lubricate boom pivot and dipperstick pivot.

Lubricate stabilizer pivots.

Check hardware torque.

Clean inside valve covers.
|
NOTE: If you use backhoe for more than 10 hours daily, lubricate all points listed above twice a day.
Replacing Bucket Teeth
c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Bucket teeth are heavy. When you remove them, they may pinch fingers. Wear gloves and safety glasses when you remove teeth.

1. Remove tooth (A) from shank (B):
• Drive chisel in at (C).
• When tooth is loose, hit area (D) with hammer.
2. Clean the shank.
3. Install new tooth.
4. Peen area (E) on each side.
Cleaning Inside Valve Covers

1. Remove four bolts (A). Remove cover.
2. Clean with water pressure.
3. Install cover and bolts.
Lubrication
Grease
Use grease based on the expected air temperature range during the service interval.
The following greases are preferred:
• John Deere Moly High Temperature EP Grease.
• John Deere High Temperature EP Grease.
• John Deere GREASE-GARD™.
Other greases may be used are:
• SAE Multipurpose EP Grease with 3 to 5 percent molybdenum disulfide.
• SAE Multipurpose EP Grease.
• Greases meeting Military Specification MIL-G-10924C may be used as arctic grease.
NOTE: Lubricate grease fittings as shown. Lubricate all other pivot points with SAE-10 oil.
1. Lubricate grease fittings with John Deere multipurpose grease or an equivalent:

a. Swing cylinder pivot points (A) (beneath operator’s station).
b. Swing frame pivot points (B).
c. Boom and dipper stick cylinder pivot pin (C).
d. Boom pivot point (D) (bottom of cylinder rod).
e. Swing cylinder rod and boom (E) (both sides of backhoe).
