Installing the Tiller

Ballasting Requirements

All tractors require one of the following be installed when using the tiller:

• A minimum of two front weights when tilling level ground.

• Four front weights when tilling on slopes.

Use the following recommendations to help improve traction:

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Do not use tire chains on newer GT, GX models that are in combination with tire sizes 24x12-12 and the tiller, as damage to tiller frame can occur.

• Install tire chains on turf tires or install bar tires on the tractor.

• Install three rear weights.

Ballast weights can be purchased from your John Deere Dealer. See your machine operator’s manual for further information.
