
Service Intervals
Servicing Your Machine
IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Operating in extreme conditions may require more frequent service intervals:
· Engine components may become dirty or plugged when operating in extreme heat, dust or other severe conditions.
· Engine oil may lose efficiency if vehicle is operated constantly at slow or low engine speeds or with frequent short trips.

Please use the following timetables to perform routine maintenance on your machine.
Initial Break-In
After First 5 Hours of Operation
· Check/tighten wheel bolts (model LX280AWS).
· Lubricate front wheel spindles.
After First 25 Hours of Operation
· Check/tighten wheel bolts (model LX280AWS).
· Check/tighten loose hardware.
· Change engine oil and filter.
· Check transmission oil level.
· Check coolant level (model LX289).
After First 50 Hours of Operation
· Check/tighten wheel bolts (model LX280AWS).
· Change engine oil and filter.
After First 100 Hours of Operation
· Check/tighten wheel bolts (model LX280AWS).
· Change engine oil and filter.
Every 25 Hours
· Check mower blades.
Every 50 Hours
· Check tire pressure.
· Check transmission oil level.
· Lubricate front wheel spindles.
· Lubricate front axle pivot (model LX280AWS).
· Lubricate mower gage wheels.
· Lubricate mower blade spindles.
· Check/service air cleaner elements.
· Check/tighten wheel bolts (model LX280AWS).
Every 100 Hours or Annually (whichever comes first)
· Check/tighten loose hardware.
· Check battery electrolyte level.
· Clean battery.
· Change engine oil and filter.
· Inspect spark plugs and check gap.
· Check mower belts.
· Check and adjust mower timing belt (Freedom42).
· Sharpen mower blades.
Every 200 Hours or Two Years (whichever comes first)
· Replace fuel filter.
· Change radiator coolant (model LX289).
· Check radiator hoses and clamps (model LX289).
Every 500 Hours or Two Years (whichever comes first)
· Change engine coolant (model LX289).
Every 500 Hours
NOTE: See your John Deere dealer for these services.
· Check engine idle speeds.
· Check carburetor adjustment.
· Check and adjust valve clearance.
· Check fuel lines.
