
Service Intervals
Servicing Your Machine
IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Operating in extreme conditions may require more frequent service intervals:
• Engine components may become dirty or plugged when operating in extreme heat, dust or other severe conditions.
• Engine oil may lose efficiency if vehicle is operated constantly at slow or low engine speeds or with frequent short trips.

Please use the following timetables to perform routine maintenance on your machine.
Break-in - After 5 Hours
• Check and adjust drive belt tension as needed.
Break-in - After First 20 Hours
• Change engine oil.
• Check for loose hardware and tighten as needed.
• Clean fuel sediment bowl.
Break-in - After 50 Hours
• Check and adjust reel and roller drive chain tension.
• Change gear case oil.
Daily
• Grease greens tender conditioner (GTC) or rotary brush.
• Grease front roller (2 places).
• Grease rear roller (2 places).
• Grease reel (2 places).
• Grease input drives to ground drive chain (2 places).
• Grease input drives to reel drive chain (1 place).
• Check engine oil level.
Every 50 Hours
• Clean fuel sediment bowl.
• Clean air cleaner foam element.
• Check air cleaner paper element.
• Grease knife shoe shaft.
• Grease drive control linkage.
• Grease operator presence pawl and cam.
• Grease adjusting knobs.
• Change engine oil.
• Inspect transport tires and check air pressure (if equipped).
Every 100 Hours
• Clean spark plug and adjust gap.
• Clean cylinder and cylinder head cooling fins.
• Check gear case oil.
Every 300 Hours
• Change air cleaner paper element. (More often in dusty conditions.)
• Check and adjust reel and roller drive chain tension.
• Check drive belts for proper tension, adjust as needed.
• Replace and gap spark plug.
Yearly or every 500 Hours
• Remove carbon from cylinder, cylinder head, and piston. (See the Technical Manual or your John Deere Dealer.)
• Check valves. Reface or replace as necessary. (See the Technical Manual or your John Deere Dealer.)
• Check and adjust valve clearance. (See the Technical Manual or your John Deere Dealer.)
