Battery Statement
WARNING: Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead components, chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.
Service the Battery Safely

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid. It is poisonous and can cause serious burns:
· Wear eye protection and gloves.
· Keep skin protected.
· If electrolyte is swallowed, get medical attention immediately.
· If electrolyte is splashed into eyes, flush immediately with water for 15-30 minutes and get medical attention.
· If electrolyte is splashed onto skin, flush immediately with water and get medical attention if necessary.
The battery produces a flammable and explosive gas. The battery may explode:
· Do not smoke near battery.
· Wear eye protection and gloves.
· Do not allow direct metal contact across battery posts.
· Remove negative cable first when disconnecting.
· Install negative cable last when connecting.

Checking the Battery (Sealed Batteries)
c CAUTION: Avoid injury! The battery produces a flammable and explosive gas. The battery may explode:
· Do not smoke near battery.
· Wear eye protection and gloves.
· Do not allow direct metal contact across battery posts.
· Remove negative cable first when disconnecting.
· Install negative cable last when connecting.

NOTE: Do not attempt to open, add fluid or service battery. Any attempt to do so will void warranty.
· Keep battery and terminals clean.
· Keep battery bolts tight.
· Keep small vent holes open.
IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! This battery comes fully charged. If the machine is not used by the service expiration date indicated on the battery, charge the battery.

· Recharge, if necessary, at 6-10 amperes for 1 hour.
Removing and Installing Battery
Removing:
1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

2. Open battery cover.
· Disengage elastic cord from recess (A) in rear of fender.
· Raise cover.
3. Slide black cover away from terminal and disconnect negative (-) battery cable (B) first.
4. Slide red cover away from terminal and disconnect positive (+) battery cable (C).
5. Lift battery from machine.
Installing:
1. Place battery in battery tray. Ensure that the terminals are orientated correctly.
2. Connect the positive (+) battery cable first, then negative (-) battery cable.
3. Apply dielectric grease to terminals to prevent corrosion.
4. Slide covers over battery terminals.
5. Lower cover and secure elastic cord.
Cleaning Battery and Terminals
1. Disconnect and remove battery. (See Removing and Installing Battery in this section.)
2. Wash battery with solution of four tablespoons of baking soda to one gallon of water. Be careful not to get soda solution into cells.
3. Rinse battery with plain water and dry.
4. Clean terminals and battery cable ends with wire brush until bright.
5. Apply dielectric grease to terminals to prevent corrosion.
6. Install battery.
Using Booster Battery

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! The battery produces a flammable and explosive gas. The battery may explode:
· Do not attempt to jump start a frozen battery. Warm to 16 degrees C (60 degrees F).
· Do not smoke near battery.
· Wear eye protection and gloves.
· Keep sparks and flames away.
· Do not connect the negative (-) booster cable to the negative (-) terminal of the discharged battery. Connect at a good ground location away from the discharged battery.

B - Disabled Machine Battery
1. Connect positive (+) booster cable to booster battery (A) positive (+) post (C).
2. Connect the other end of positive (+) booster cable to disabled machine battery (B) positive (+) post (D).
3. Connect negative (-) booster cable to booster battery negative (-) post (E).
4. Connect the other end (F) of negative (-) booster cable to a metal part of disabled machine frame away from battery.
5. Start engine of disabled machine and run machine for several minutes.
6. Carefully disconnect booster cables in exact reverse order: negative cable first and then positive cable.
Replacing Fuse
The electric start circuit is protected by one 20-amp fuse. The fuse is located under the operator's console.
IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Help prevent machine circuit damage. Make sure replacement fuse is the correct size.

1. Locate and replace faulty electric start fuse under console on left side of machine.

· Open fuse holder (A) and remove socket with fuse.
· Check metal clip in fuse window. Discard fuse if clip is broken.
· Install new 20-amp fuse in socket.
· Install socket with fuse in cover. Ensure that plastic tab is securely fastened.
