Tow a Trailer Safely

A53085-UN-23OCT03
Avoid serious injury or death resulting from loss of control
or rear end collision while transporting the implement and any towed
load behind the implement.
Attach a properly sized safety tow chain at each drawbar connection.
Do not transport on roadways with the planter more than one-half
full. Do not transport a trailer (such as a fertilizer tank) unless
it is empty.
Never exceed 13 600 kg (30 000 lb) of towed weight behind the
machine while in the field.
Transport only with a properly sized tractor. Refer to Calculating
Minimum Tractor Weight For Safe Transport in Preparing Tractor section.
Do not transport on a roadway unless the trailer has functioning
tail lights. Attach an appropriate lighting harness to the 7-pin connector.
See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider for accessory lights and lighting
harnesses.
Attach an appropriate slow-moving-vehicle emblem or signaling
panel and other reflective material. Verify that the reflective material
is clean and visible.
Avoid tight turns that cause hitch damage.
