Adjust The Planting Depth

NOTE: The closing-wheel down force affects the seed placement and depth. Do not use more force than necessary to close the seed furrow, especially in light soils.

A - Gauge Wheels

B - Depth-Adjusting Handle

C - Direction Of Movement For Handle

The gauge wheels (A) control the seed depth. Adjust the planting depth as follows:

  1. Raise the machine to remove weight from the gauge wheels.

  2. Lift the depth-adjusting handle (B). Move it forward to decrease the planting depth or rearward to increase the planting depth. If small increments are desired, “walk” the handle from side to side. Each adjusting position changes the planting depth 6 mm (1/4 in).

  3. Adjust all of the rows to the same initial setting.

  4. Lower the machine and drive a short distance at normal planting speed.

    Soil Cross Section

    A - Depth

B - Top of Soil Profile

    C - Ridge

Check the planting depth on each row.

    1. To locate the seed, dig down vertically through the soil.

    2. Measure the depth (A) from the seed to the top of the soil profile (B). Do not measure to the top of the ridge (C) created by the closing wheels.
