A - Hitch Tube

B - Planting Unit Frame

C - Hitch/Marker Switch

Periodically check that the hitch tube (A) and the planting unit frames (B) are parallel to the ground during operation.

  1. IMPORTANT: If the tractor has Category 4 drawbar, it must be used with a Category 4 clevis on the planter. If the tractor has Category 5 drawbar, it must be used with a Category 5 clevis on the planter. (See Install Proper Drawbar Hitch Link in the Preparing Machine section.)

NOTE: Adjustments are more accurate when performed in field conditions.

NOTE: If the center frame of machine is higher or lower than the wings, rephase the hydraulic lift system. Lower the machine and hold the SCV lever for several seconds to rephase.

Set any of the adjustable down force system to zero pressure.

  2. Lower the machine on level ground.

  3. Place the hitch-marker switch (C) in the Hitch position.

    A - Drawbar Hitch Cylinder

Completely retract the drawbar hitch cylinder (A).

  5. With the planter in the planting position and the adjustable down force systems are set to zero pressure, measure the clearance between the bottom of the main frame tube to the ground. If the frame is not 510—560 mm (20—22 in) above the ground, see Adjust Center Frame Height in the General Service and Adjustments section before continuing this procedure.

  6. Raise and lower the machine.

  7. Verify that the hitch tube is parallel with the ground. If the hitch is not parallel, proceed with the remaining steps.

    A - Clevis

    B - Cap Screws, Clevis

C - Cap Screw, Safety Chain

Raise the hitch enough to lower the jack-stands and disconnect the clevis from the tractor.

  9. NOTE: If the clevis is in the highest position when the hitch is parallel, install the safety chain under the clevis.

NOTE: Turn the clevis over for the minor adjustment. Move the clevis to a new hole for the major adjustment.

Reposition the clevis (A) so the hitch becomes parallel to the ground when reattached to the tractor.

  10. IMPORTANT: Cap screws must be tightened before a load is placed on the hitch to obtain accurate torque values.

Tighten the clevis cap screws (B) and the safety chain cap screw (C) to specification.

    ItemMeasurementSpecification
    Cap Screws
    ClevisTorque597 N·m (440 lb·ft)
    Safety ChainTorque325 N·m (240 lb·ft)

  11. Attach the tractor to the drawbar, raise the jack-stands, and retract the drawbar cylinder completely.

  12. Verify if the entire length of the hitch tube is parallel with the ground. If the hitch is not parallel, reposition and tighten the clevis until the hitch tube is parallel.

    A - Parallel Arms

    B - Planting Unit Frame

During operation, the parallel arms (A) are parallel to the ground or angle slightly upward toward the frame.

During operation, the planting unit frames (B) are parallel to the ground. Periodically verify that the planting units are parallel with the ground during operation.

If the center frame of the machine becomes higher or lower than the wings during operation, rephase the hydraulic lift system.
