A - Closing Wheel

B - Adjusting Spring

C - Heavy Downforce

D - Medium Downforce

E - Light Downforce

When properly adjusted, closing wheel (A) pinches the furrow closed. Use no more downforce than required to close furrow, especially when applying anhydrous fertilizer.

Place closing wheel adjustment spring (B) in one of three setting positions (C, D, or E), which best suits the soil type, and closes furrow without compacting soil.

  • Heavy downforce (C)—Heavy wet soil
  • Medium downforce (D)—Most common soil types
  • Light downforce (E)—Light, loose, or sandy soil

To avoid blowing gas out of furrow when using separate fertilizer placement (SFP) openers with anhydrous ammonia (NH3) only, disable air flow to SFP openers. (See Air Cart Operator’s Manual).
