Safety chains help control drawn equipment in case accidental separation from drawbar occurs during transport. A runaway machine could cause severe injury or death to someone. Provide only enough slack in chain to permit turning.

Chain attachment location can vary with different tractors. See tractor operator’s guide for specific information.

Inspect safety chain rating tag at each hitch. Relocate chains so highest strength chain is at implement-to-tractor hitch. Verify that chain capacities are equal to or greater than combined weight of following train. Larger chains can be purchased at your John Deere™ dealer.
