Check condition of cotter shear pin. The cotter shear pin (A), which connects the clutch to the countershaft, will shear when excessive load is put on the jackshaft.
Cotter pins may also become deformed through normal usage after extended use. In this condition, it is possible for the cotter pin to eventually fail without a planter malfunction. Improper drive chain alignment or infrequent or improper lubrication causes "binding" or moving parts within the planter. This "binding" will cause the cotter shear pins to shear, thus preventing breakage of parts.
If pin shears, locate the source of the "binding" and correct. Replace cotter pin.
NOTE:
Replace the cotter shear pin ONLY with cotter shear pin of the same size. Do not replace with other type pins.
