Countershaft Cotter Pins
The cotter shear pins (A), which connect the countershaft to the transmission and wing drive, will shear when an excessive load is put on the countershaft.
Cotter shear pins may also become deformed through normal usage after extended use. In this condition, it is possible for the cotter pin to eventually fail without a planter malfunction. Improper drive chain alignment or infrequent or improper lubrication causes "binding" of moving parts within the planter. This "binding" will cause the cotter shear pins to shear, thus preventing breakage of planter parts.
If cotter pin shears, locate the source of "binding" and correct. Replace the cotter pin.
NOTE:
Replace the cotter shear pins ONLY with cotter shear pins of the same size. Do not replace with other type pins.
