Drag Closing Attachment

The drag closing attachment is recommended to improve seed emergence in particularly difficult soil conditions that severely "bake and crust" after planting.

The seed packer wheel precedes the drag and pushes seed down into the moist soil. The drag brings loose soil into seed furrow without compaction. Without the typical closing compaction the covering soil acts like mulch, reducing the tendency to crust, to improve seed emergence.

Only for use in fields that are relatively level and free of residue and clods which could cause plugging.

Adjustment Procedure

Loosen set screw (A) and move depth stop to limit packer wheel travel. Tighten set screw.

The drag closing system is supplied with two weights (B). If required, more weight may be added by removing cap screws and attaching a third weight under the cross strap and securing with longer cap screws. See your John Deere dealer.

To increases or decreases the amount of soil movement, adjust inner drags. Loosen carriage bolts (C) and slide inner drags (D) up or down. Tighten carriage bolts.

To center drag assembly over the row, loosen cap screws (E), reposition drag assembly and tighten bolts.

Loosen nut (F) and adjust the cap screw up or down to compensate for changes in planting depths and level drags on the ground.
