Radial Bean Meter Inspection and Service

Annually inspect seed meter for wear and chemical/seed treatment buildup.

1. Remove seed bowl.

2. Remove seed retainer from meter and clean debris from meter.

To remove seed retainer:

a. Remove screw (A).

b. Unsnap four hooks holding retainer to housing.

c. Gently pull retainer from housing.

3. Check singling brush for wear. If brush thickness is less than 3 mm (1/8 in.) or if upper tip of brush (A) is below top of green retaining brush (B) when assembled in meter, replace singling brush. Rate of brush wear varies with field conditions and is accelerated under sandy soil conditions.

4. Inspect green retaining brush for wear. Development of a groove in brush fibers above singling brush is an indication that singling brush needs to be replaced more frequently.

Wear of green retaining brush at cleanout "bump" (A) is normal and expected. Meter will operate properly with these fibers worn off.

causym CAUTION: Follow chemical manufacturer's precautions when handling parts coated with seed treatments. Use proper skin, eye, and respiratory protection.

NOTE: Thoroughly clean seed-bowl cell area and remove any excessive treatment buildup in radial meter housing.

When installing seed bowl, knockout wheel (A) must not be pinched by seed bowl.

5. Inspect knockout wheel (A) for excessive wear. Replace if wheel fails to contact seed bowl.

6. Annual cleaning of radial bean meter is recommended. Use mild detergent and a soft brush.
