Changing Row Widths-1700 Machines

IMPORTANT: There should be light contact between ratchet sprocket and ratchet dog assembly. Be certain ratchet sprocket turns freely after moving wheel.

Be certain drive chain aligns properly with ratchet sprocket on countershaft. Loosen sprocket set screws and locate sprocket as needed. Tighten set screws.

NOTE: The drive-gauge wheels are factory set for 76 cm or 97 cm (30 in. or 38 in.) row spacing. If other row spacing is desired, move drive-gauge wheels accordingly.

Row widths can be changed on the following machines:

  • 4-Row with 91 cm, 97 cm and 102 cm (36 in., 38 in. and 40 in.) row spacings
  • 6-Row with 91 cm, 97 cm and 102 cm (36 in., 38 in. and 40 in.) row spacings
  • 8-Row with 91 cm, 97 cm and 102 cm (36 in., 38 in. and 40 in.) row spacings

    NOTE: To be able to change row spacing on 70 cm (27.5 in.) and 76 cm (30 in.) machines, gauge wheels must be mounted on front of machine frame and a front-mounted transmission is needed.

  • 6-Row with 70 cm (27.5 in.) row spacing
  • 6-Row with 76 cm (30 in.) row spacing
  • 8-Row with 70 cm (27.5 in.) row spacing
  • 8-Row with 76 cm (27.5 in.) row spacing

To change row widths, proceed as follows:

1. Empty hoppers and lower machine to ground.

2. Loosen drive-gauge wheel U-bolts (A), ratchet set screw (B) and planting unit U-bolts (C).

3. Place each inside planting unit so seed disk openers are one-half the desired row width from center of machine frame.

4. Place other units at the desired row width.

5. Tighten U-bolts to specification.

Specification

U-Bolts -Torque 204 N·m (150 lb-ft)

6. Tighten ratchet set screw.

7. Check all drive components for interference. Check planting unit openers to ensure seed tubes and openers are free of dirt or other foreign material.
