Finding Transmission Sprocket Settings for Row Widths Not Shown in Operator's Manual

When desired population is known, use the following formula to find transmission sprocket settings for row widths not shown in seed charts.

FORMULA:

(A ÷ B) x C = D

A = Desired row width (centimeters or inches)

B = Row width column in the seed chart (for crop being planted) nearest to desired row width

C = Seed population desired (hectares or acres)

D = Calculated comparison population value

The following example assumes corn will be planted (using vacuum meters with corn-30 cell disks) with planting units set on 71 cm (28 in.) rows and a desired seed population of 69,000 seeds/hectare (28,000 seeds/acre). Using seed chart for corn-30 cells, the

row width nearest the desired row width is 76 cm (30 in.).

EXAMPLES:

  • (71 cm ÷ 76 cm) x 69,000 seed/ha = 64,460 seeds/ha

Find population value in Metric chart nearest to calculated comparison population value (65,203 seeds/hectare).

Use the sprocket combinations in the corresponding rows (29-tooth driver and 27-tooth driven) to achieve desired population (69,000 seeds/hectare).

  • (28 in. ÷ 30 in. ) x 28,000 seeds/acre = 26,133 seeds/acre

Find population value in Standard chart nearest to calculated comparison population value (26,318 seeds/acre).

Use the sprocket combinations in the corresponding rows (29-tooth driver and 27-tooth driven) to achieve desired population (28,000 seeds/acre).
