Vacuum Meter Operating Characteristics
The operating band (gray area) illustrates how vacuum meter performs in relation to desired population (indicated by horizontal line).
Width of band is due to:
-
Various sizes and shapes of seeds
-
Planting rate variations
-
Field Conditions
In most cases, vacuum meter planting accuracy does not decline unless maximum planting speed is exceeded.
On the vacuum meter, maximum speed is often a result of field conditions. Rough field conditions can knock seed off seed disks and can cause row unit bounce which can severely affect seed placement. Adding attachments like pneumatic downforce can improve seed placement in rough field conditions.
