Using Powdered Graphite
IMPORTANT:
Some insecticide-treated seed may be coated with commercially applied graphite. It is important that the recommended amount of graphite be added in addition to graphite already on the seed.
IMPORTANT:
Graphite will filter down into radial bean meter mechanism and insure proper lubrication. John Deere Graphite provides a dry lubrication. Some types have an oil base and will form a gummy residue on parts. Graphite does not eliminate need for proper and regular lubrication indicated in lubrication charts.
IMPORTANT:
When using the meters the first time each season, in addition to adding graphite to CCS tanks, add 9 mL (0.6 Tbls.) or 0.3 oz to each row unit.
NOTE:
Any additives other than John Deere powdered graphite in radial bean meters may leave residue on parts that could affect planting rates.
With rough-textured soybeans or treated soybeans, extra graphite added regularly with seed will improve seed flow into meter.
Add powdered graphite to each bulk hopper at the following rate per fill:
| Graphite Application |
| Unit Size |
Amount of Graphite Per Fill |
| 50 Bushel Tank |
470 mL (32 Tbls.) or 16 oz |
| 35 Bushel Tank |
328 mL (22 Tbls.) or 11 oz |
| 22.7 kg (50 lb) Soybean Bag |
9 mL (0.6 Tbls.) or 0.3 oz |
