Changing Product Handling Meter Segments

Four types of fluted meter segments are available to handle different products and/or product delivery needs and application rates. The segments are color-coded for easy identification.

· Yellow (A) - Low Rates and granular products: Applying low-rate products like flax, canola, alfalfa.

· Black (B) - Regular Rates: For seeds up to 6 mm (0.25 in.) diameter. Most commonly used roller for wheat, barley and small soybeans.

· Green (C) - High-Volume Rates: Applying high-rate products such as fertilizer and soybeans larger than 6 mm (0.25 in.) diameter.

· Blue (D) - Very High Rates: Applying very high rates of products such as fertilizer up to 260 lb/ac and metering very large seeds.

1. Remove meter cartridge assembly from housing.

2. Remove and retain cap screw (E), lock nut (C), spacer (F), sensor signal ring (D), and washers (G) from meter shaft (I).

NOTE: Handle will need to be returned to original position at assembly to engage lock tab. Mark handle position before removing.

3. Remove and retain flange nuts (A) and handle (B) from tie rods (AH).

4. Remove and retain end cap (J) and seal (H).

IMPORTANT: Before removing enclosures (K) and (M), and segments, note their original positions on the shaft. Numbering the enclosures works well. Work systematically from one end of the shaft to the other and BE SURE to return meter segments (with correct number of tuning rings) to their original positions when installing on shaft (I).

5. Keep product doors (O) installed on inactive sections, pull enclosures, and assembled meter segments from shaft.

6. Remove assembled meter segments (AJ) from enclosures. Note location and quantity of fine tuning rings.

IMPORTANT: Snap ring and bearing plate must be removed from beveled end of meter segment only.

7. Remove and retain snap ring (AF) and bearing plate (AE) from beveled end of meter segment.

8. Replace all existing segments with new segments. All segments of the meter assembly MUST be the same color.

NOTE: One end of meter segment is beveled to accept fine tuning rings.

9. Install same number of fine tuning rings on new segments as was found on old. To easily install, soak rings in hot water first and position on beveled end of segment; then drive on with tool (AG) A61656.

10. Install assembled snap ring (AF), bearing plates (AE), and meter insert (AI) onto meter segment.

IMPORTANT: If number or position of fine tuning rings have changed, you will need to replace meter brush (N).

IMPORTANT: Make sure product doors are installed at inactive runs.

11. Place segments in enclosures and return to their original positions on the shaft.

NOTE: Be sure handle is returned to original position.

12. Install previously removed end cap (J) and meter handle (B).

IMPORTANT: Over tightening tie rod flange nuts (A) can distort plastic enclosures (K) (L) (M), preventing meter segments from turning; increases wear on meter cartridge; and causes rod to interfere with sensor ring.

13. Tighten nuts (A) until 1-2 tie-rod threads are visible.

14. Install previously removed washers (G) and sensor ring (D) to meter shaft (I).

15. Install previously removed cap screw (E), spacer (F) and lock nut (C).

16. Install meter cartridge assembly to housing.
