IMPORTANT: Vacuum RETURN hose, with special tip, MUST be connected to tractor EXTEND port. This allows the motor to be shut off by placing SCV lever directly into "float" position, avoiding damaging pressure spikes. This also applies to variable rate drive when connected to an SCV.

This table shows connecting lift assist wheels to an SCV. Lift assist wheels may also be connected to tractor hitch, allowing the SCV to be connected to other functions. See procedures in this group for more information about hitch controlled lift assist

Vacuum motor may be controlled using tractor SCV, or may be controlled by planter flow control valve. If using tractor SCV, planter flow control valve should be fully open.

  • For 1720 12-RN and 16-RN machines with wing lift kit, the wing lift cylinder my be plumbed directly to the lift-assist wheel plumbing or tractor rockshaft.
  • For 1710 and 1720 Planters, a diverter valve if available to connect independent markers and wing fold on one SCV.
  • If connecting a 1710 or 1720 planter with vacuum, lift-assist, and variable rate drive to a tractor that has only 3 SCVs and is not equipped with power beyond, markers can be connected to lift assist wheel hoses for auto operation.
  • 1720 16-Row Planters come equipped with dual vacuum motors and are set-up for each vacuum motor to have its own SCV. This configuration requires a minimum of 4 tractor SCVs. If 4 SCVs are available; connect the vacuum motors to SCV's I & II, Frame Fold to SCV III, Markers to SCV IV, and variable rate drive to power beyond. Vacuum may then be controlled using tractor SCV or planter flow control valves. If using tractor SCV, planter flow control valves should be fully open. If tractor is equipped with only 3 SCVs, hydraulic hoses for vacuum motors must be teed together and connected to a single SCV and vacuum must be controlled with planter flow control valves.
