Using Powdered Graphite

IMPORTANT: Some insecticide-treated seed is coated with commercially applied graphite. It is important that the recommended amount of graphite be added in addition to graphite already on the seed.

IMPORTANT: Regular use of 15 mL (1 Tbls.) of powdered graphite (Part No. B33379) added into hopper per each bushel of soybeans reduces wear of metering components and prolongs life of meter. Graphite will filter down into radial bean meter and insure proper lubrication. John Deere Graphite provides a dry lubrication. Some types have an oil base and will form a gummy residue on parts. Graphite does not eliminate need for proper and regular lubrication indicated in lubrication charts.

NOTE: Any additives other than John Deere powdered graphite in radial bean meters may leave residue on parts that could affect planting rates.

NOTE: If graphite is building up in bottom of hopper, reduce amount accordingly.

Add 15 mL (1 Tbls.) of powdered graphite (part No. B33379) into each 58 L (1.6 bu) hopper at each refill. Double the amount if using 106 L (3 bu) hoppers.

With rough-textured soybeans or treated soybeans, extra graphite added regularly with seed will improve seed flow into meter.

Addition of 120 mL (1/2 cup) of talc over top of each hopper full of seeds may improve population during humid planting conditions.
