Frame Mounted Single-Disk Fertilizer Openers-Split-Row
IMPORTANT:
Avoid crop injury. Inspect fertilizer opener placement on frame before operation.
Fertilizer openers are set at a nominal distance off of the seed furrow at the factory. Verify fertilizer opener offset on every row before operating the planter. Improperly placed fertilizer has the potential to cause crop injury, depending on fertilizer product and application rate. Discuss fertilizer placement with the fertilizer supplier to determine the optimum offset for the rate and product applied. (See ALIGN DISK OPENER - SPLIT ROW in this section.)
Frame mounted single-disk fertilizer openers perform in conventional, reduced, no-till, and double crop conditions. They are designed specifically for band application of liquid fertilizer. The single blade and gauge wheel configuration minimizes disturbance of the seed zone in these conditions and helps preserve seedbed moisture. The gauge wheel helps to maintain a consistent fertilizer depth.
Operating the opener in soils containing many large rocks is not recommended. The upper limit stop on an opener is incapable of supporting the machine frame weight as the opener rides up over large rocks.
Fertilizer openers are able to lock in a raised position when not in use.
The opener design allows the machine to be folded for transport with the openers locked up, provided they are aligned properly. (See ALIGN DISK OPENER - SPLIT ROW in this section.)
