Checking Valves

causym CAUTION: To avoid injury from escaping hydraulic oil under pressure, relieve the pressure from the system.

Foreign material can work its way into the valves and cause them to stick open or closed. To check the valves, proceed as follows:

1. Lower planter with engine running.

2. Place hydraulic lever in float position and TRANS/PLANT switch PLANT position. Depress all remaining switches in both directions.

3. Place TRANS/PLANT switch TRANS position. Depress all remaining switches in both directions.

4. Leave hydraulic lever in float position and shut off engine.

5. Using wrench (A), remove nut, thin washer, if any, and cover from solenoid (some solenoid covers may have a thin washer beneath the cover which also should be removed) and lift solenoid from valve.

6. Using wrench, remove valve (A).

7. Place valve in solvent and press poppet inside of valve back and forth to dislodge any foreign material from the valve.

8. Inspect threads on both ends of valve for rust or oxidation. Use a wire brush to clean threads.

IMPORTANT: Do not overtighten valves. Valve bodies may distort and cause valves to stick or hang up.

NOTE: SV1 or SV3 is stamped on hex of valve.

9. Install valve. Tighten SV3 valves (small hex valve) to specification.

Specification

SV3 Valve -Torque 47.5 N·m (35 lb-ft)
Tighten SV1 valves (large hex valve) to specification.

Specification

SV1 Valve -Torque 102 N·m (75 lb-ft)

10. Install solenoid and washers

11. Install nut on top of solenoid. Tighten nut to specification.

Specification

Nut -Torque 6.5 N·m (5 lb-ft)

12. If problem still exists, replace valve.

Counter-Balance Valves

causym CAUTION: Before removing any base end main frame lift cylinder hoses (A), (all hoses will be marked with a caution decal on cylinder end), place control box in plant position, and lower machine to the ground. With electro-hydraulic SCV's, leave engine running, place lift SCV into float position, then shut-off engine. With manual SCV, lower machine, shut off engine and cycle SCV levers back and forth to relieve pressure.

causym CAUTION: Lower machine to ground before working on any hydraulic components or welding.

This machine is equipped with two counter balance valves inside the main valve body. This valve is used as a safety feature to hold the machine in the up position. The only way the machine will lower, is to power the counter-balance valves to open the ports and let the machine lower.
