Unit Mounted Coulter

causym CAUTION: Raise machine and install service locks.

causym CAUTION: Coulter blades are sharp. Use gloves when handling blades.

IMPORTANT: Bottom edge of coulter blade is placed approximately 10 mm (3/8 in.) up from bottom edge of seed openers in normal conditions. (Check this dimension with machine in planting position on any level surface.) The force required for penetration and the help to maintain a constant seed depth is minimized.

As coulter blade wears, adjust coulter depth.

IMPORTANT: An option in heavy straw is to position bottom edge of coulter blade under bottom edge of seed openers, but doing so can affect seed depth.

A unit mounted coulter is used:

  • To assist the Tru-Vee™ opener to penetrate tough soil conditions.
  • To cut or displace residue commonly found in reduced tillage conditions.

The coulter blade penetration depth is controlled with the opener gauge wheels, weight adjustment, and cap screw (A). As blade wear occurs, loosen cap screw (A), lower arm to next notch and tighten nut.

A row unit down force system is recommended with this attachment.

Adjust coulter blade so it is directly in front of Tru-Vee™ opener and is not running at an angle to direction of travel.

To align side-to-side, loosen cap screws (A) and slide coulter.

If coulter blade is running at an angle different from the direction of travel do the following:

  • Remove cap screws (A).
  • Add washers, as required between back surface of coulter casting and front of planting unit.
  • Install and tighten cap screws.
