IMPORTANT:
Avoid pump damage. Remove drive chain from piston pump when fertilizer system is not in use.
The low pressure system uses a flow divider to evenly distribute product at various application rates. The 12 and 16 row machines have one flow divider on top of pump. The 24 row machine has two flow dividers on the wings. The low pressure system is used with the frame mounted openers and double disk unit mounted openers.
Low pressure fertilizer systems do not utilize any orifices or nozzles at the openers. The pump setting is the only adjustment when changing rates. To set application rate, refer to the rate chart and adjust the piston pump to the corresponding setting. Since there are no orificed restrictions in a low pressure system, no pressure gauge is needed and plugging is far less likely to occur. Monitoring rows for proper distribution is limited to observing fertilizer move through each tube.
Priming the fertilizer system is critical to obtain best performance, especially at low flow rates. (See PRIMING AND INITIAL STARTUP OF PUMP in this section.) Check hose routing to ensure there are no extreme high or low variations in path of hose. These extreme variations have the potential to trap air which causes variation in output. Eliminate kinks, pinches, or sharp bends in the fertilizer hoses. Any restriction reduces fertilizer flow to that opener.
