Replace Seed Opener Blades and Seed Tube Guard

IMPORTANT: Avoid premature wear. Do not use a new blade with a used blade. Install new blades in pairs.

NOTE: If replacing seed tube guard only, the right-hand blade does not need to be removed.

1. Remove cap screw (A), pivot shaft (B) and gauge wheel from row unit.

2. Planting unit equipped with rotary or rigid scraper-Pull front engagement pin (A) outward, disengage scraper assembly (B) from shank panels.

3. Remove hub cap (C).

causym CAUTION: Disk blades are sharp. Wear protective gloves and handle disks carefully to avoid being injured.

NOTE: Do not discard spacer shims.

4. Remove nut and flat washer (A).

5. Remove blade (B).

6. Remove hardened shims.

7. If replacing blades, remove blade on opposite side of row unit. If replacing seed tube guard only, right-hand blade does not need to be removed.

NOTE: Replace seed tube guard, if excessively worn.

8. Remove seed-tube guard (A) by rotating clockwise and sliding forward.

9. Adjust blade contact point during reassembly. See INSPECT AND ADJUST SEED OPENER BLADES in this section.

10. During reassembly, tighten opener blade nut and gauge wheel arm cap screw to specification.

Specification

Opener Blade Nut -Torque 122 N·m (90 lb-ft)
Gauge Wheel Arm Cap Screw -Torque 271 N·m (200 lb-ft)

11. Adjust gauge wheels. See ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS in this section.
