Brake Cylinder for Air Actuated Brakes

The brake cylinder which is attached to the wheel support transfers required brake forces via a threaded rod to the balancing lever which operates the two drum brakes.

For achieving the required brake forces, the balancing lever must be attached to the center hole of right-hand and left-hand brake levers.

The piston rod (A) of the diaphragm-type brake cylinder (B) has a total extension range as specified. When piston extends more than 2/3 of this range, brake facings should be examined and re-adjusted or replaced, if necessary.

An internal spring assists in releasing the brake.

The condensed water drain valve on the brake cylinder should not be opened unless the brake system is completely free of pressure. The condensed water should be drained once every year.
