IMPORTANT:
Avoid pump damage. Remove drive chain from piston pump when fertilizer system is not in use.
Prime the fertilizer system to obtain best performance, especially at low flow rates. (See PRIMING AND INITIAL STARTUP OF PUMP in this section.) Check hose routing to ensure there are no extreme high or low variations in path of hose. These extreme variations have the potential to trap air which causes variation in output. Eliminate kinks, pinches, or sharp bends in the fertilizer hoses. Any restriction reduces fertilizer flow to that opener.
The unit mounted single-disk openers use nozzles at each opener to maintain system pressure. All other openers use special fittings with orifices to maintain system pressure. The lower end of pressure range, 138 kPa (1.4 bar) (20 psi), must be maintained to ensure even fertilizer distribution. Do not exceed the upper end of the range, 483 kPa (5.0 bar) (70 psi). Maintaining pressure is the ONLY function of the nozzles and orifices. They have no effect on the application rate.
The special fitting has a diaphragm that acts as a check valve. The single-disk openers have a check valve in the hose near the nozzle. A minimum pressure of 69 kPa (0.7 bar) (10 psi) must be present before fertilizer is delivered to the opener.
