Replacing Cotter Shear Pins

The cotter shear pin (A), which connects sprocket to drill-shaft, will shear when excessive load is put on drill-shaft.

Cotter pins may also become deformed through normal usage after extended use. In this condition, it is possible for cotter pin to eventually fail without a machine malfunction. Improper drive chain alignment or infrequent or improper lubrication causes "binding" of moving parts within planter. This "binding" will cause cotter shear pins to shear, thus preventing breakage of parts.

NOTE: Replace cotter shear pin ONLY with cotter shear pin of same size. Do not replace with other type pins.

If pin shears, locate source of "binding" and correct. Replace cotter pin.
