Shear Protection Points

NOTE: Replace cotter shear pins only with cotter shear pins of same size. Do not replace with other type pins. Extra shear pins for contact seed drive sprocket are located on inside of seed drive transmission.

One cotter shear pin (A) is located at seed drive contact-tire driver sprocket.

Four cotter shear pins (B) are located one at each fold joint (8-Row Wide and 12-Row Narrow Only). If nuisance failures occur, it may be necessary to realign couplers.

One cotter shear pin (C) is located on each side of seed drive unit.

Cotter pins may also become deformed through normal usage after extended use. In this condition, it is possible for cotter pin to eventually fail without a machine malfunction. Improper drive chain alignment or infrequent or improper lubrication causes "binding" of moving parts within planter. This "binding" will cause cotter shear pins to shear, thus preventing breakage of parts.

If pin shears, locate source of "binding" and correct. Replace cotter pin.
