Liquid Fertilizer System Storage Procedures with John Blue™ PumpsIMPORTANT: To prevent damage to piston pump: Keep air out of pump. Entrance of air into the pump causes rapid and severe corrosion to the interior pump components, even for short periods of storage. Keep pump from freezing. Remove drive chain when not in use. IMPORTANT: To prevent damage to distribution hoses: Remove delivery hoses from distribution manifold before adding winterizer to system. Delivery hoses are not compatible with winterizers containing Propylene Glycol or Ethylene Glycol. Use compressed air to force water from delivery hoses and nozzles. Failure to remove water from hoses can cause damage when freezing temperatures occur. Suspension fertilizer must be flushed from the pump for any storage period. |

Overnight | Cooling Temperatures | Solution is likely to settle out. Draw fresh water into pump and leave filled. DO NOT admit air. | Overnight | Steady or Rising Temperatures | Leave pump and hoses filled with solution. | One to Two Weeks | Acceptable | Draw fresh water into pump to dilute and flush fertilizer solution. DO NOT DRAIN. Keep pump sealed to exclude air. | One to Two Weeks | Preferred | Increase delivery rate and operate pump by hand turning contact drive tire. Flush pump and distribution hoses thoroughly with fresh water drawn in through fertilizer tank, approximately 19 L to 38 L (5 to 10 gal.). Remove delivery hoses from distribution manifold and apply enough compressed air to remove water from each hose and nozzle. Replace water with appropriate mixture of SPRAY MASTER Winterizer Fluid at the correct ratio to protect the system down to the lowest expected temperature. Operate pump by hand turning contact drive tire to circulate winterizer into pump and distribution manifold. Plug inlet and outlet hoses. | Winter | Preferred | Increase delivery rate and operate pump by hand turning contact drive tire. Flush pump and distribution hoses thoroughly. Use fresh warm water and circulate until all corrosive salts are dissolved in pump, approximately 38 L to 57 L (10 to 15 gal.). |
