High Pressure Distribution

IMPORTANT: John Deere recommends all high pressure delivery systems be equipped with a gauge to monitor system pressure.

Liquid Fertilizer Pressure Gauge

A - Valve

The liquid fertilizer pressure gauge has a small valve (A) on the top that is used as a vent. Flip the valve open if the gauge is mounted vertically. Flip the valve closed if the gauge is mounted horizontally. This prevents the glycerine from leaking out of the gauge when mounted horizontally.

IMPORTANT: Avoid pump damage. Remove drive chain from piston pump when fertilizer system is not in use.

Single Disk Injection Opener

The high pressure system uses a manifold to evenly distribute product at various application rates. The 12 and 16 row machines have one manifold on top of pump. High pressure system is not offered on the 24 row machine. The high pressure system is used with the unit mounted single disk injection openers.

High pressure fertilizer systems use nozzles at each opener to maintain system pressure. The lower end of pressure range, 138 kPa (1.4 bar) (20 psi), must be maintained to ensure even fertilizer distribution. Do not exceed the upper end of the range, 483 kPa (5.0 bar) (70 psi). The pump setting and nozzle are adjusted when changing rates. To set application rate, refer to the rate chart then adjust the piston pump and nozzle to the corresponding setting.

The delivery hose is equipped with a check valve near each opener. A pressure of 69 kPa (0.7 bar) (10 psi) minimum must be present before fertilizer is delivered to the opener.

Priming the fertilizer system is critical to obtain best performance, especially at low flow rates. (See PRIMING AND INITIAL STARTUP OF PUMP in this section.) Check hose routing to ensure there are no extreme high or low variations in path of hose. These extreme variations have the potential to trap air which causes variation in output. Eliminate kinks, pinches, or sharp bends in the fertilizer hoses. Any restriction reduces fertilizer flow to that opener.
