Adjusting Seed Depth
-
NOTE: Always raise machine to adjust the planting depth.

A - Depth Adjusting Handle
Position each depth adjusting handle (A) at desired seed
depth. With left-hand pin of depth adjusting handle (A) positioned
in LOWEST hole and right-hand pin positioned in NEXT TO LOWEST hole,
seed depth will be approximately 25 mm (1 in.). Each handle position
changes the depth approximately 8 mm (5/16 in.). When adjusting seed
depth, start with low opener down-pressure and gradually increase
until desired penetration is reached. Generally the press wheel should
carry some pressure. When opener hits a clod or high spot, wheel may
temporarily lose pressure, but preset pressure will hold opener against
soil surface.
-
IMPORTANT: Avoid machine damage. Initially, use low opener down-pressure
and increase as necessary.
Lower the openers while moving forward. Stop without raising
openers.
-
Check to see if gauge wheel arms are up against depth adjusting
handles.
-
NOTE: DO NOT use more down-pressure than required to maintain
desired depth.
NOTE: If openers over tire tracks are not penetrating soil adequately,
adjust them individually. See ADJUSTING INDIVIDUAL OPENER DOWN-PRESSURE
in this section.
Adjust opener down-pressure as necessary until gauge wheel arms
are against depth adjusting handles.
-
Check seed depth again, once the wheel arms are against the
depth adjusting handles.
