Checking Seed Population

  1. NOTE: When planting at a shallow depth with the closing wheels raised, seeds can roll or bounce and can affect seed spacing accuracy.

    A - Depth-Adjusting Handle

    B - Chain

    C - Ratchet Strap

On MaxEmerge row units attach chain (B) as shown to one or more sets of closing wheels, so seed trench remains open.

On Pro Series row units attach ratchet strap (C) as shown to one or more sets of closing wheels, so seed trench remains open.

  2. Set depth-adjusting handle (A) two settings from minimum setting.

  3. Plant a short distance and check to see if seeds are visible in trench. Adjust depth-adjusting handle if necessary.

  4. Plant approximately 91 m (100 yd.).

  5. Consult rate charts. Determine what distance equals 1/1000 of a hectare, 1/1000 of an acre or 1/200 of an acre as it relates to the row width being planted.

Mark distance selected with flags (A).

  7. NOTE: When planting with little depth and with closing wheels raised, seeds tend to roll or jump. Precision of seed spacing is affected.

Count the seeds (B) between markers.

FOR VACUUM METER ONLY:

If all settings are correct and population is high, reduce vacuum level by units of 1 inch until correct population is reached. If the real population is low, increase vacuum level by half to 1 inch jumps until correct population is reached.
