Set Vacuum Level

IMPORTANT: When using CCS Seed Delivery system, the only crops that can be delivered are corn, soybeans, sorghum, sunflower, and cotton.

IMPORTANT: Some very small or large seed sizes and shapes require vacuum levels slightly higher or lower than settings shown. Always verify vacuum level with field check. The charts provided in this section are guides and are accurate in most conditions. Some situations require a higher or lower vacuum setting.

Vacuum level is indicated on a monitor display mounted in the tractor cab. See SeedStar™ Operator's Manual for vacuum level display on monitor.

Initial vacuum levels are readings taken AT PLANTING SPEED.

NOTE: The vacuum level is slightly lower during tractor and vacuum motor start-up. Allow hydraulic oil to warm up for most accurate readings.

Set vacuum level as follows:

  1. Refer to tractor operator's manual. Move hydraulic control lever to forward detent position to start vacuum motor. Allow oil to warm up for 15 minutes.

  2. Fill hoppers or CCS bulk tanks with seed.

  3. Press “Rotate Seed Meters” button twice on VRD monitor or plant approximately 5 m (15 ft.) to cover seed disks with seed. Empty seed disks have less restriction and affect the vacuum reading.

  4. IMPORTANT: The hydraulic connections determine whether the tractor flow control valve or planter flow control valve is used to control vacuum level. See Attach Machine section in planter operator's manual and verify type of connection.

Adjust flow control valve on planter or flow control in tractor until vacuum level is at initial level recommended in table for the target planting speed.

  5. Perform field checks to verify that population is accurate. Perform meter and vacuum adjustments as needed. Refer to planter manual for troubleshooting and planter adjustments. Refer to this manual for meter adjustments.
