Adjust Planting Depth

NOTE: Closing-wheel down force can affect seed placement and depth. Do not use more force than necessary to close seed furrow, especially in light soils.

A - Depth-Adjusting Handle

B - Gauge Wheels

Gauge wheels (B) control seed depth. Adjust planting depth as follows:

  1. Raise machine to remove weight from gauge wheels.

  2. Lift depth-adjusting handle (A). Move it forward to decrease planting depth or rearward to increase planting depth. If small increments are desired, “walk” handle from side to side. Each adjusting position changes planting depth 6 mm (1/4 in.).

  3. Adjust all rows to the same initial setting.

  4. IMPORTANT: Prevent seed tubes from plugging. When operating in the field, lower machine when tractor is moving forward.

Lower machine and drive a short distance at normal planting speed.

B - Top of Soil Profile

    C - Ridge

Check planting depth on each row.

    1. Dig down vertically through soil to locate seed.

    2. Measure the depth (A) from seed to top of soil profile (B). Do not measure to top of ridge (C) created by closing wheels.
