Roadway Transport Safety
CAUTION: Avoid collisions day and night by using warning flashers,
accessory lights, turn signals, and other devices for adequate warning
to other vehicles. For maximum permissible transport widths, check
local regulations. Serious injury or death can result
from contact with electric lines. Use care when moving or operating
this machine near electric lines.
When transporting, always travel at a safe speed for adequate
control of steering and stopping.
Avoid transporting machine with seed and pesticide hoppers more
than half full. Exceeding this weight can cause poor front-end stability,
possible loss of steering, and excessive frame loading.
Verify that everyone is clear of machine.
CAUTION: Do not exceed 24 km/h (15 mph). Reduce speed when traveling
over rough ground.
Towed loads can swerve, upset, or cause loss of control. Follow
these guidelines:
-
Use a tractor large enough to maintain control.
-
Properly ballast tractor. See tractor operator's manual.
-
Latch tractor brakes together.
-
If tractor has Roll-Gard Safety Canopy, keep seatbelt fastened when transporting.
-
Shift tractor into lower gear when transporting down steep slopes
or hills; never coast.
Learn and observe tracking path of machine, behind tractor,
when turning corners.
Avoid collision with obstacles and other road users by being
aware of height and width restrictions.
Keep reflective material and SMV emblem clean and visible.
Frequently check for traffic from rear, especially in turns.
This implements construction cannot meet all local or national
requirements for transport on public roadways. In regions or countries
that have national certification requirements for roadway transport,
it can be impossible for implement to be approved for such roadway
transport. The customer is responsible for understanding and complying
with all local, regional, and national requirements regarding roadway
transport.
Stopping distance increases with speed, on slopes, and with
increased weight of towed loads.
Observe recommended maximum road speeds and local speed limits.
Do not travel more than 24 km/h (15 mph) and do not tow loads
more than 1.5 times tractor weight.
Ensure that load does not exceed recommended weight ratio. Add
ballast up to recommended maximum for tractor, lighten load, or get
a heavier tractor. Tractor must be heavy and powerful enough, with
adequate braking power, for the towed load. Use additional caution
when towing loads under adverse surface conditions, when turning,
and on inclines.
Never tow implement behind a truck or other motor vehicle.
