Replace Cotter Shear Pins
Replace Countershaft Cotter Pins
NOTE: Replace the cotter shear pins only with cotter shear pins
of the same size. Do not replace with other type pins.

A - Shear Pins
The cotter shear pins (A), which connect the countershaft
to the countershaft sprocket, will shear when an excessive load is
put on the countershaft.
Cotter shear pins may also become deformed through normal usage
after extended use. In this condition, it is possible for the cotter
pin to eventually fail without a machine malfunction.
Infrequent or improper lubrication causes “binding”
of moving parts within the machine. This “binding” will
cause the cotter shear pins to shear, thus preventing breakage of
machine parts.
Check transmission for binding or loose chains that may have
become tangled.
If cotter pin shears, turn countershaft by hand to locate where
“binding” is occurring. When countershaft can be turned
freely by hand, replace cotter pin.
If shaft binds due to misalignment, loosen bolts on shaft bearings.
Make certain shaft turns freely, then tighten bolts.
Replace Drill Shaft Cotter Pins
NOTE: Replace the cotter shear pins only with cotter shear pins
of the same size. Do not replace with other type pins.
