Distribution

A72071-UN-18JUL11
The John Deere™ Liquid Fertilizer system uses manifold(s)
and in-line orifices of varying sizes to evenly distribute product
at various application rates. Machines have manifold(s) mounted on
the frame. The system is used with all John Deere™ fertilizer
openers.
The fertilizer system uses in-line orifices at each row to maintain
system pressure. The lower end of pressure range, 103 kPa (1.0 bar)
(15 psi), must be maintained to ensure even fertilizer distribution.
Do not exceed the upper end of the range, 689 kPa (6.9 bar) (100 psi).
The pump setting and orifices are adjusted when changing rates. To
set application rate, refer to the rate chart, then adjust pump to
desired setting and install recommended orifices. Next verify that
system pressure is within 103—621 kPa (1.0—6.2 bar) (15—90
psi) when traveling at desired planting speed.
NOTE: As planter travel speed is increased, the fertilizer system
pressure will also increase.
The delivery hose is equipped with a check valve near each opener.
A pressure of 14 kPa (0.1 bar) (2 psi) minimum must be present before
fertilizer is delivered to the opener.
Priming the fertilizer system is critical to obtain best performance,
especially at low flow rates. (See PRIMING AND INITIAL STARTUP OF
PUMP in this section.) Eliminate kinks, pinches, or sharp bends in
the fertilizer hoses. Any restriction reduces fertilizer flow to that
opener.
IMPORTANT: All liquid fertilizer systems should be equipped
with a gauge or sensor to monitor system pressure. SeedStar™
equipped planters display fertilizer pressure on the monitor.

Liquid Fertilizer Pressure Gauge
A - Valve
The liquid fertilizer pressure gauge has a small valve (A)
on the top that is used as a vent. Flip the valve open if the gauge
is mounted vertically. Flip the valve closed if the gauge is mounted
horizontally. This prevents the glycerine from leaking out of the
gauge when mounted horizontally.
A pressure gauge kit is available for the piston pump fertilizer
systems. (See your John Deere™ dealer for more information.)
IMPORTANT: Avoid pump damage. Remove drive chain from piston
pump when fertilizer system is not in use.
