Battery Cables And Charging

CAUTION:

Help prevent serious injury or death from an electrical shock or electrocution. The planter is equipped with a 56 V electrical system which has a high-voltage electrical current. Always use extreme caution when servicing the battery set in planter.

Avoid a short circuit or spark that results in an explosion, use extreme caution when using tools, wires, or metal objects near batteries. To prevent shorting out batteries, wrap tools with vinyl tape.

Remove all jewelry (watches, rings, bracelets, and similar items) before servicing the electrical system or batteries.

IMPORTANT: Batteries should be charged when planter is removed from storage at the beginning of the season. If battery bank voltage level is below 48 V but above 10 V, on-board electric power generation (EPG) is used to charge the batteries. See the SeedStar 3 HP Operator's Manual for information operating the EPG. If the battery bank is below 10 V, complete the following procedure to charge the batteries individually.

Batteries also need replacement after long-term use. (See Clean Or Replace Batteries in this section.)

  1. Access battery tray. (See Access And Check Batteries in this section.)

    A - Batteries

    B - Battery Cables

    C - Cable With Fuse

This battery tray is wired as a 48 V electrical system until the cables are disconnected. Cables must be removed so each battery is separated for charging at 12 V level.

NOTE: When battery tray is open, checking voltage level on each battery is suggested. (See Access And Check Batteries in this section.)

Remove all battery cables (B) from batteries (A) before charging.

  3. Remove cable with fuse (C) first.

  4. NOTE: Charge each low voltage level battery to full levels before moving on to the next battery.

Connect charger cables to battery terminals of each battery which needs charged.

A - Battery Cable With Fuse

Help prevent serious injury or death from an electrical shock or electrocution. This power generation system is equipped with a 56 V electrical system which has a high-voltage electrical current. Always use extreme caution when servicing the battery set in this machine.

IMPORTANT: Avoid completing series circuit of energy and electric shock, by attaching battery cable with fuse (A) last when connecting battery cables at beginning of the season.

Reconnect battery cables to battery posts in numerical sequence as shown. Tighten battery terminal connections. (See Tighten Battery Terminal Connections in this section.)

  6. Attach battery cable with fuse (A) last.

  7. Perform the following, once cables are connected:

    • Install battery cover and wing screws.
    • Close CCS™ platform door and turn latches back to original positions on planter.
    • Install previously removed harness connectors on outside of battery container.
