Battery Safety

CAUTION: Help prevent serious injury or death from an electrical shock or electrocution. This power generation system is equipped with a 56 V electrical system which has a high-voltage electrical current. Always use extreme caution when servicing the battery set in this machine.

  • Explosive mixtures of hydrogen gas are present within battery cells. DO NOT service or charge vehicle batteries in an area where open flames, sparks, cigarettes, or any other source of combustion are present.
  • Only trained technicians or owners that have knowledge and experience with electrical maintenance must repair or service this vehicle.
  • Avoid a short circuit or spark that results in an explosion, use extreme caution when using tools, wires, or metal objects near batteries. To prevent shorting out of batteries, wrap tools with vinyl tape.
  • Remove all jewelry (watches, rings, bracelets) before servicing the electrical system or batteries.
  • If it is necessary to operate or charge the vehicle in an enclosed area, verify that the work area is ventilated well.
  • Always wear approved eye protection while servicing the vehicle. Wear a full face shield, rubber gloves, and rubber apron when servicing the batteries.
  • Replace worn, damaged, or broken parts immediately.
  • DO NOT touch battery terminals, connectors, or wires that are not insulated.
  • ALWAYS refer to the Battery Connection diagram before and during battery installation and while making the electrical connections.
  • Battery connections are both marked and color coded. ALWAYS verify that the RED boots cover the POSITIVE (+) battery terminals and wires. ALWAYS verify that the BLACK boots cover the NEGATIVE (-) battery terminals and wires. Avoid a short circuit or sparks that result in an explosion, by connecting battery wires properly.
  • DO NOT install the primary battery POSITIVE cable onto the initial battery positive terminal until all other battery cable connections have been completed.
  • Battery electrolyte is poisonous and causes severe burns. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing.

ANTIDOTES:

  • EXTERNAL: Flush with water for at least 20 minutes. Call a physician immediately.
  • INTERNAL: Drink large quantities of milk or water. Follow with Magnesium Hydroxide Mixture "Milk of Magnesia"or vegetable oil. Call a physician immediately.
  • EYES: Flush with water for at least 20 minutes and get prompt medical attention.
