A visual inspection of the planter batteries is intended to find and correct potential problems before they create more serious safety and operational concerns. A battery is a perishable item that requires periodic maintenance. Life of a battery is extended with a reasonable amount of care.

  1. Park the vehicle safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

  2. Engage parking brake, shut off engine and remove key.

    A - Latches

Help prevent serious injury or death from an electrical shock or electrocution. This planter is equipped with a 56 V electrical system which is able to pass high-voltage electrical current. Always use extreme caution when servicing the battery set in the planter.

Help prevent serious injury or death. Failure to connect battery wiring properly cause batteries to short circuit or spark which cause an explosion.

To open CCS platform door, turn latches (A). Lift door exposing battery cover.

Avoid system malfunctions, machine damages, and fires. Any damage to battery case or terminals are possible signs that the terminal connections are loose.

A visual inspection of the batteries must be done before a charger is placed on the planter batteries.

    Visually inspect all batteries for:

    • Discolored or melted terminal boots.
    • Burn spots.
    • Dirt or corrosion on or around the battery terminals.
    • Damage to battery case or terminals.
    • Leakage of electrolyte.
    • Broken or frayed cables.

To gauge which batteries need charging after visual inspection, check voltage levels on each battery with multimeter.

    • If battery voltage is 11—12 V, no extra charge is needed.
    • If battery voltage is 0—10 V, charging battery is needed.

  8. After visual inspection or repairs are complete:

    • Install battery cover and wing screws.
    • Close CCS platform door and turn latches back to original positions on planter.
    • Install previously removed harness connectors on outside of battery container.
