    A - Cap Screw

    B - Pivot Shaft

    C - Scraper

    D - Contact Point

Avoid injury from sharp edged disks. Wear protective gloves and handle disks carefully.

Inspect blade edge contact point (D) as follows:

    1. Insert two small business cards between blade opening and gently slide cards together until blade contact point is reached.

    2. Measure distance between business cards and compare to specification.

Blade Edge ContactBlade Edge Contact Length38—63.5 mm (1.5—2.5 in.)

    3. If distance does not fall within specifications, proceed as follows:

  2. Remove cap screw (A), pivot shaft (B), and gauge wheel from row unit.

  3. Inspect scrapers (C) for excessive wear and replace as necessary.

  4. Inspect blades for wear or damage.

Measure blade diameter and compare to specification. If diameter is below specification, if beveled edge is worn off, or if significant damage is apparent, replace blades. (See REPLACE SEED OPENER BLADES AND SEED TUBE GUARDS in this section.)

    A - Nut and Washer

    B - Disk

Avoid injury from sharp edged disks. Wear protective gloves and handle disks carefully.

IMPORTANT: Avoid spindle damage. Nut on left side of shank has left-hand threads.

NOTE: If opener blades are centered on the row unit shank, remove only one blade to adjust contact point. If one opener blade contacts row unit shank, move shims from one side of shank to the other to center the blades.

  6. Remove hub cap, nut, flat washer (A), and hardened shims.

  7. Remove blade (B).

  8. While blade is off, inspect seed tube guard. Replace the guard as needed. (See REPLACE SEED OPENER BLADES AND SEED TUBE GUARDS in this section.)

  9. NOTE: Do not discard shims. Shims are needed at time of blade replacement.

Relocate enough shims from one side of blade to the other to increase or decrease contact point when assembled. Inspect adjustment and repeat as needed.

  10. During final reassembly, tighten blade nut and gauge wheel arm cap screw to specification.
