Troubleshoot Product Meter System

SymptomProblemSolution

Reduced Product Flow with SectionCommand™

Cartridge plunger bound in section opening.

Remove meter cartridge to clean and free plunger.

Material build up in cartridge preventing proper gate movement.

Remove meter cartridge and clean cartridge.

Cartridge bolts over tightened.

Remove meter cartridge and check carriage bolts.

Actuator is stuck in activated position and pushing gate closed.

Misaligned, see your local John Deere Dealer.

Failed actuator return spring, see your local John Deere Dealer.

Material build up. (Refer to SECTIONCOMMAND™ CLEANOUT PROCEDURE in Service Section.)

Debris in grommet, clean meter housing (Refer to SECTIONCOMMAND™ CLEANOUT PROCEDURE in Service Section.)

External environment issues.

Cold oil temperature, start tractor and warm up hydraulic fluid.

Hydraulic oil restriction.

Restriction in hydraulic hoses, determine restriction and correct.

Pinched or collapsed hydraulic hose, replace hydraulic hose or correct issue.

Block return filters, refer to tractor operator’s manual or see your local John Deere Dealer.

Reservoir over filled, refer to tractor operator’s manual or see your local John Deere Dealer.

Block breather on reservoir, refer to tractor operator’s manual or see your local John Deere Dealer.

Incorrect couplers, replace with correct couplers.

Uneven or Inaccurate metering or product delivery.

Air leaking past lid seal.

Adjust lid closing down pressure.

Replace seal.

Incorrectly placed foam plug.

Remove and reinstall foam plug correctly. (See OPEN OR CLOSE PRODUCT RUNS in Meter Setup and Operation section.)

Product level too low for accurate metering.

Do not run tank empty. Refill sooner.

In-tank pressure tubes (ladder rails), air control valves, or manifold end cap screens plugged.

Clean tubes, air valves, and screens.

Tank pressurization hoses plugged.

Clean hoses.

Half-width disconnects closed or partially closed.

Completely open both disconnects.

Foreign material blocking product passages.

Remove blockage. Use screens when filling tanks.

Lumps in seed or fertilizer.

Use clean seed.

Reset agitator shaft action.

Remove lumps from fertilizer. Use screens when filling tanks.

Meter segment rings not installed or wrong number installed.

Install correct number of fine tuning rings for secondary header ports.

Improper assembly of header ring or air system.

Reassemble correctly.

Slide or manifold bypass openings plugged.

Clean openings.

No product delivery with meters engaged.

Meter overload.

Engage meter only when fan is running to avoid overload.

Product binding in meter rollers.

If binding occurs with small seed (less than 6 mm [1/4 in.]), the black meter roller, and small wear plate, switch to standard wear plate.

If binding occurs with small seed (approaching 6 mm [1/4 in.]), the black meter roller, and standard wear plate, switch to green or orange meter roller.

Manifold slide in wrong position.

Position slide correctly.

Half-width disconnects closed, blocking product from meter.

Open half-width disconnects.

Large product bridging meter entry.

Install agitators over active runs to keep product free flowing.

Delivery rate above or below expected rate.

Tank not pressurized.

Adjust lid closing down pressure.

Check and replace lid seal.

Clean in-tank pressure tubes (ladder tubes), air control valves, and manifold end cap screens.

Clean tank pressurization hoses.

No meter covers installed.

Install covers on inactive runs.

Wrong meter rollers for product in use.

Replace meter segments with correct rollers for desired application rate.

Check transmission settings.

Check monitor set-up and calibration.

Inaccurate rate check results.

Rerun rate check.

Digital Calibration Scale Zero Drifts or reports inaccurate readings.

Replace batteries in digital scale.

Plugged product passages or meter roller flutes.

Check and remove caked product from passages and meter rollers.

Slide or manifold bypass openings plugged.

Clean openings.

Manifold slide in wrong position.

Position slide correctly.

Half-width disconnects not fully open.

Move handles down to open product passages. Perform rate check.

Variable rate not established.

Build rate selection menus. Perform variable rate set-up.

Incorrect air system or tool setup.

See Monitor Setup for Air Cart Section.

Desired rates exceed capacity.

Reduce speed or add more primaries.

Manifold slide difficult to move.

Foreign objects in slide path

Inspect for and remove foreign objects.

Material collects on slide.

Tap lightly on slide handle. Remove slide and coat with a PTFE or graphite lubricant.

Hydraulic valve for drive motor makes noise or is unstable.

Air in system

Follow bleed procedure.

Hydraulic Drive Motor speed is erratic.

Contamination in hydraulic drive motor system.
