Calculate Tow-Behind (TBH) Commodity Cart and Implement Compatibility
Calculate cart weight plus product weight and compare to implement
weight to determine if they are compatible when used on flat or sloped
terrain.
-
Slopes up to 18% Grade (10 degrees): Total cart weight plus
product weight must not exceed 2.5 times implement weight.
-
Slopes between 18%—27% Grade (10—15 degrees): Total
cart weight plus product weight must not exceed two times implement
weight.
-
Slopes above 27% Grade (15 degrees): TBH carts are not compatible.
IMPORTANT: For more information, see OPERATION OR TRANSPORT
ON HILLSIDES in Transport section.
-
Locate approximate empty weight of cart in the following table.

-
Calculate weight of product times number of bushels placed in
tank. Repeat for each tank. Add combined weight of all product to
empty weight of cart.
-
NOTE: If implement is not listed on chart or is not manufactured
by John Deere, refer to your implement operator's manual for weight.
Locate approximate weight of implement from table on next page.
-
Multiply implement weight by 2 or 2.5, depending on slope of
terrain. Compare the result to total cart weight to determine compatibility.
Cart must weigh less than result of calculation.
Examples: 12.2 m (40 ft.) 1835 Seeding
Tool (table below) and 250 bushel Commodity Cart with grain and fertilizer
(table above)
-
When total cart and product weight exceeds calculated maximum
weight, product level must be reduced to lower the cart weight into
acceptable range. Take a density reading of the product in use, determine
pounds-per-bushel, and reduce percent-of-fill accordingly.
