B - Unacceptable

C - Green

D - Red

E - Ratio

CAUTION: Towing with an underweight tractor can result in loss of control during transport or braking, resulting in serious injury or death.

Transporting at speeds greater than 32 km/h (20 mph) can result in loss of control and serious injury or death.

If an implement is attached to the rear of a tow-behind cart or seeding tool, add the implement's weight to the total weight of the cart and seeding tool.

NOTE: Refer to Tractor operator's manual to determine tractor weight.

Add seeding tool weight to empty air cart weight plus implement that is being towed. Subtract this from the tractor weight times 1.5. This is the weight of the product you can safely transport in your air cart.

Road Transport at 32 km/h (20 mph)

Formula

Calculation

Result

Example kg

Example (lb.)

A

Tractor weight multiplied by 1.5

Maximum towing capacity

24 493 kg x 1.5 = 36 739

54 000 lb. x 1.5 = 81 000

B

Empty cart weight or (cart weight plus implement weight)1

Equipment weight

27 215 kg (Cart plus Implement)2

60 000 lb. (Cart plus Implement)2

Formula B must not exceed formula A for this transport speed.

C

Formula A minus formula B

Potential fill capacity of cart

36 739 kg - 27 215 kg = 9524 kg

81 000 lb. - 60 000 lb. = 21 000 lb.

D

Smaller Value of Formula C and Maximum Tire Capacity

Maximum Permissible Transport Weight

9524 kg or 15 133 kg

21 000 lb. or 33 362 lb.

If using fertilizer during transportation enter the weight of the fertilizer in formula E. If no fertilizer is used enter 0 in formula E.

E

Formula D minus weight of fertilizer added to cart tank

Remaining commodity fill weight

9524 kg - 5386 kg = 4138 kg3

21 000 lb. - 6300 lb. = 14 700 lb.3

F

Formula E divided by seed density4

Remaining fill capacity in bushels of seed

4138 kg ÷ 27 = 153 bu. of soybeans

14 700 lb. ÷ 60 = 245 bu. of soybeans

Use the following table to determine your specific commodity weight restriction. Multiply tractor weight by local road transport regulations not exceeding 1.5.
