Safe Handling of Xenon (HID) Lamps
CAUTION:

TS266-UN-23AUG88
Never insert foreign objects or fingers into the bulb socket
(high voltage - potential for FATAL ACCIDENTS).
CAUTION: Never operate the ballast unit without a Xenon (HID)
lamp, because dangerous voltage arcs may occur at the socket, which
can cause damage (high voltage - potential for FATAL ACCIDENTS).
CAUTION: If a Xenon (HID) lamp is not handled correctly, there
is risk of the bulb exploding and throwing shards into the air. Avoid
personal injury.
-
Switch off the light and allow the Xenon (HID) lamp to cool
down before exchanging it. Leave switch off until the Xenon (HID)
lamp has been exchanged.
-
Wear safety goggles and gloves.
-
The electrical connection between the worklight and ballast
conducts high voltage; this connection may not be disconnected under
any circumstances before the ballast has been separated from the vehicle
harness.
-
Hold the Xenon (HID) lamp only by its base. Keep the Xenon (HID)
lamp away from oil; wear gloves to prevent contact with the glass.
Before installing the glass bulb, carefully clean away fingerprints
with a clean cloth and alcohol. Skin oil on the Xenon (HID) lamp can
cause overheating and early failure.
-
Do not operate Xenon (HID) lamp outside the housing. Xenon (HID)
lamps have a high operating pressure and can explode and cause injuries
if damaged.
-
Do not use Xenon (HID) lamps that fell down or have scratches
on the glass (danger of splintering).
-
Do not drop or scratch the Xenon (HID) lamp. Keep away moisture.
-
Place used Xenon (HID) lamp in the box of the new Xenon (HID)
lamp and dispose of it properly. Keep out of the reach of children.
-
In case the Xenon (HID) lamp breaks within a closed room (workshop)
the room must be vacated and ventilated for at least 20 minutes to
rule out health hazards due to the gases.
