Changing to a Different Tire Size

IMPORTANT: Refitting is only permissible to a tire combination that is authorized for the tractor. Please note that it may be necessary to adjust the transmission ratio or to exchange the steering valve. Further information on tire combinations and for calculating the transmission ratio can be found in this section of the operator's manual.

Changing to a different tire size may make considerable adjustments necessary. The scope of this depends on the tractor's configuration.

Be sure to take all the information in the following list into account and follow the recommendations in the right column.

SymptomProblemSolution

The indicated speed is lower or higher than the actual speed.

Parameters to determine the wheel speed do not fit to the new tires.

An adjustment of the top speed becomes essential. Entry of the correct parameters by an authorized dealer.

The emergency steering characteristics may get worse.

A change to different tires on the front wheels may cause increased steering forces. This has an effect in particular on the steering characteristics without motor support.

An authorized dealer needs to check whether a different steering valve is required for using the new front tires.

If a non-suitable steering valve is used, the operating license becomes void.

Error messages when using a radar.

The calibration of the radar does not comply with the tire size.

New calibration by an authorized dealer.

Increased wear of tires and front-wheel drive clutch

The value for the front wheel lead of the front wheels may get worse.

Check of the tire combination by an authorized dealer. If necessary, retrofitting of a fitting transmission ratio.

Strains in the drive train may occur.

The transmission ratio between rear and front axle does not fit.

Check of the tire combination by an authorized dealer. If necessary, retrofitting of a fitting transmission ratio.

Tires may come into contact with tractor components.

Modifications to tread width or tire size make a readjustment of the steering stop and fenders necessary.

An authorized dealer has to carry out the adjustment of steering stop and fenders.

The load capacity of the front tires may get worse.

If tires with a smaller load index are used, the load capacity decreases.

Accustomed tasks may possibly be carried out no longer.

The oil sight glass shows a wrong oil level.

If you change to a different tire size, the height ratio of rear to front axle may change. This has an effect on the oil level.

An authorized dealer needs to check whether an exchange of the oil sight glass becomes necessary.

The automatic switch-off1 of the front-wheel drive does not function.

The maximum possible shut-off angle for the automatic engagement and disengagement of the front-wheel drive depends on the tire type, tread width, and steering stop and can be less than the angle that can be selected on the display.

Set the shut-off angle for the automatic engagement and disengagement. See “Engage Front-Wheel Drive” in the “Operate the Tractor — General” Section.
