Preventing Front Wheel or Fender Contact with Tractor Components

IMPORTANT:

After modifications were made to wheels, tread width, steering stop, etc. it needs to be checked whether wheels or fenders come in contact with tractor components. The same is valid when retrofitting additional equipment in the area of the tractor front part.

Perform the following test carefully. Contact may cause damage.

CAUTION: Do not start the engine during the test. Carry out the steering without motor assist.

  1. Jack up front of the tractor so that the axle can be swiveled back and forth to stop.

  2. Swivel the axle counterclockwise to stop and turn the steering completely clockwise. Check the clearance of wheel and fender to tractor components.

  3. Turn the steering completely counterclockwise. Check the clearance of wheel and fender to tractor components.

  4. Repeat the process with the axle swiveled clockwise to stop.

IMPORTANT: If contact occurs, the steering stops have to be set so that there is sufficient clearance. See “Notes on Adjusting the Steering Stop” and “Adjust the Pivoting Fenders and Steering Stop” for the relevant front axle in this section.

A depth of at least 10 mm (0.4 in.) to which the steering stops are screwed in needs to be ensured.

NOTE: If the operating conditions permit it, the tread width can be broadened to avoid contacts with tractor components.
